Why Race Drag?
I was looking for an application to compute some performances of my car. I was waiting for this kind of application over 1 year. Then, I have decided to do it myself. I used my programming experience, and what you see is the result of a tremendous work, both academically and at track.

What is Race Drag?
Race Drag transforms Nokia Smart phone into an automotive performance meter.

This Application accurately measure

  • acceleration time from 0 to 60 miles per hour.
  • acceleration time from 0 to 100 km per hour
  • reaction time
  • intermediate times.
Disclaimer:
This software is to be used at a track or other suitable facility. Drivers assume full responsibility to operate vehicle safely and in accord with local regulations.

Quick start guide:
In order to be used, some simple steps should be followed:
  1. Mount the device in a cradle or some other convenient place. The phone must not shift during an acceleration session. Any movement will result in altering the session results. The orientation of the phone does not matter, as long as it will not be moved during the acceleration session. I advice the user to spend couple more minutes, to be sure the phone can easily be reached, without stretching your body.
  2. Start Race Drag application. Whenever you feel ready, just tap the screen, and be ready to accelerate. The traffic light will slowly transition from Red to Green
  3. Accelerate
    • the moment you see the Green light.
    • the moment you feel confortable, but after the moment you see the Green
Get the best results:
To get the best, please use the following tips:
1.Mount your device. Holding it in you hand will not work. Any movement will be detected as additional acceleration and alter the measurement.
2.Use a smooth, straight and level stretch of a road. Going uphill or downhill will be detected as additional acceleration and alter the measurement.
3. Accelerate in straight line. Side to side movements will be detected as additional acceleration and alter the measurement.
4. Practice, and results will show up.

Screen Shots:
The home screen has a red traffic light. Tap the screen and the traffic light will transition to green.

The moment green appears, you can begin accelerating.

Once movement has been detected, application automatically switches to Speed and time control,. Here you can see the instant speed, in both analog and LCD like format, and the time movement has been detected.

When the measurement has ended, the Logs screen is showed. Also, this screen appears if braking is detected. Over here you can see the times :

Reaction time - defined as the time you see green and movement is detected.
Partial times 0 - 15, 30, 45 mph
Final time 0-60mph.
Similar screen is for metric.
